WORK AMONG OUR SAILORS.

A YEAR'S RECORD. The annual meeting of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society will bo held this evening in the Sailors' Mission Hall. The Rev. G. B. Monro will preside. It is 12 months since Mr. G. H. [Ralph w&s appointed to take charge of tie work carried on by the British and lioreign Sailors' (Society in Auckland under the supervision of tho Ministers' Association of this city, and the following is the synopsis of the report for the annual meeting: — "Daring the year the work has gone forward steadily and has made a distinct move upward. The subscribers tv the iund may rest assured the money has ; been well spent, a3 much useful work has been done, and they are thanked heartily for their liberality. A solid foundation has been laid for future . successful toil. We have come int,o close \ touch with the men on the several ships visiting the harbour. AYe thank God for ! the measure of prosperity granted and I for the increased interest on the part . of our brother seafarers who have coire , to the mission in increasing numbers. , Many have signed the pledge, and there | have been earnest seekers after truth , and righteousness. Three vessels have , put into the harbour in distress. These We been visited and services held on - hoard; also the men-of-war coming to , the port have been looked after and visited. During the year 704 visits have , teen made to the ships, invitations given, and on all possible occasions we have sat and conversed with them in the forecastle, and on starting out on their voyage have wished them God-speed. The Sunday services have been well attended, the average per week for tho i year being 46. At these services the staging has been hearty and the address listened to with earnest attention, and We believe much good accomplished. The attendance at the Tuesday and Friday . Concerts and social has been 71, and much appreciated. Last Christmas every- : man had given to him a present of . j™ing paper, envelopes, etc., with a Vhnstmas card and letter, and was Ween on board the various ships per™atly. Literature has been distributed «n the several vessels and received with I gratification.
