The Onehunga Borough Council's attention was recently drawn to a complaint submitted by a number of residents of Onehunga and suburbs who avail themselves of the workers' weekly tram- ! way ticket to and from Auckland. It was pointed out that on some occasions the passengers were crowded off the 8.2 a.m. car from Onehunga, and in consequence were obliged to travel by a later car, for which the ordinary fare was demanded. It Vas suggested that the difficulty might be overcome by extending the "weekly" ticket to include the nest car (8.17 a.m.) With a view to bringing the matter before the company, the Mayor and several of the councillors waited upon the company's general manager (Mr Walklate), and he promised to consider the matter. This he has done, and his reply to the Council is to the effect "that he lias had observations taken, and finds that the 5.2 a.m. car is not over-crowded, and the Council must have been misinformed in this respect." It has been decided, by the Council, however, that if any passengers who may at any time be crowded off this car are prepared to come forward as witnesses, the Council will take legal proceedings against the company. For one reason or another, numbers of people would like to know the whereabouts of the ill-fated s.s. Penguin, which was wrecked near Cape Terawhiti. It is doubtful, however, if their curiosity will ever be gratified. The Hon. J. A. Millar (Minister for Marine) told a "Dominion" reporter that the Government had never been asked to do anything in the matter. Hβ went on to cay that it had been frequently suggested that the Department should try and locate the wreck. What he would like to know was what advantage it would be to anyone if this were done. "At all events," added Mr Millar, "the Department does not feel disposed to assist, for, if it started by locating one wrecked vessel, it would afterwards be requested to locate the whereabouts of any other vessel that might be loat is New. Zealand waters."
