The following is Mr. D. C. Bates' weather forecast for 24 hours from 9 a.m. this day: — "From between west and south and south-east strong winds to gale; rain probable; glass fall, but rise after sixteen hours, and southerly strong winds to gale.' . The scheme for the opening of improved farm settlements for Civil servants, retrenched Civil servants and others who have been thrown out of work by the reduction of working staffs in the railway and other departments, was to have been considered by the Auckland Land Board next month, so far as concerned applications for selections in the Auckland district. It was stated at the Board meeting to-day, however, that the survey work in connection with the scheme will not be completed in time, so a postponement will be necessitated.
