CRIMINAL SESSIONS. JURY DISAGREES. Oscar Volfred Sgavoll was charged that on June 14 at Hamilton he did indecently assault a girl under the age of 16 years. The prisoner, who was defended by Mr. J- R. Lundon, pleaded "not guilty." In this trial, after the jury had retired for the full time, they failed to agree, and a new trial wae ordered. A SERIOUS CHARGE. James Campbell was charged on four counts with having committed rape upon two women and assaulting them with intent to commit rape. The prisoner pleaded "not guilty." In summing up, his Honor said this was a particularly shocking case, and the evidence against the prisoner appeared to be absolutely conclusive, being corroborated by all the surrounding circumstances. The jury returned a verdict of "guilty" without leaving the 'box. His Honor said the case was so shocking that he was not at all sure that he ought not to order a flogging. He would like an expression of opinion from the J ur .Tforeman, after a ehort consultation, said the jury were of opinion that this was a case in which the prisoner should be made an example of. His Honor thanked the jury for their expression of opinion, and remanded the prisoner for sentence until 10.30 a.m. tomorrow morning. ALLEGED THEFT.
