AUCKLAND POULTRY SHOW.
THE OFFICIAL OPENING. There was a very good attendance yesterday afternoon and evening at the Auckland and Suburban Poultry Association's Annual Show ln the Choral Hall. Speaking at the informal opening of the show yesterday afternoon, the Mayor (Mr C. I>. Grey) remarked that he was proud to perform the ceremony as Mayor of the city, because for the past 14 years he had beeu president of the society. The present o-vhllltlon afforded a striking contrast to the shows of earlier years. He paifl a tribute to the successful results attained by fancieis, who, he said, were primarily responsible for the progress of the poultry loilustry. An enormous amount of good had ad'-nitteiily been done by the Government poultry farms, but It was important that ths authorities should have tne cooperation of the private breeders, who we-.o now producing very fine stamps of utility "oir«l3. He spoke confidently of the time when the Dominion would become a large exporter of poultry. To-day an interesting exhibit is being made of bh-ds which have passed through the Goverument grading depot. These birds are Illustrative "f the best commercial varieties for export, and afford poultry farmers the opportunity of Judglug what class of bird !s best fitted for the export trade. Non-competlt ye exhibits, in the nature of hybrid Kiwi fowls and cock pheasants, attract a good deal of interest, and the whole exhibition is regarded as a splendid success. The show remains open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. to-day, and will also be open from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m. to-morrow.
