HEAVY RAINSTORMS.
A EECORD IN CHEISTCHURCH.

CHRISTCHUECH, this day. The heaviest rain for twenty years, three inches and one-fifth in twentyiour hours, was experienced yesterday. Many business places in low-lying parts were flooded, and many streets were impassable, especially where the roadway is open, or was recently so, for the laying or" pipes for the new water supply. The street channels were not equal to the exceptional fall. By 11.15 a.m. to-day the sky had broken somewhat, and the rain had fallen away to a drizzle, but the indications are still threatening. SNOW ON THE RANGES. BLENHEIM, this day. Heavy rain, accompanied by bitterly cold wind, fell yesterday, and this morning. When the clouds lifted a liberal coating of snow was observed on the ranges to the westward of Blenheim. RIVERS AND CREEKS SWOLLEN. CARTERTON, this day. Heavy cold rain foil here yesterday and last night. The surrounding districts show the effect of the deluge, Daletield especially suffering from flooded creeks, the water being over roads to a height of two feet in places. All the rivers are fairly high. AT TIMAKU. TIMAB.U. this day. 5 After a warm, dry spell for some weeks past, there was an abrupt change in the weather on Sunday, when the temperature fell as low as 44 degrees. A quarter of an inch of rain fell that night, and at nine kist evening steady rain set in, and is still falling very heavily. During the twelve hours ending nine o'clock nearly two inches fell.
