A DANGER TO NAVIGATION.

• ■ The committee of the New Zealand Power Boat Association have brought under notice of the Harbour Board the state of the wharf at tho Bastion. In a letter read at to-day's meeting, it was stated that this wharf, which runs out some distance from the shore, is at high tide completely covered by about 18in. oi water, and as there are now so many small craft, especially motor boats, on the harbour, it is becoming a source of danger at high tide. Several narrow escapes from serious accidents have already been reported to the Association this •season, and in view of these facts they requested the Board $0 place a beacon or something of the<>_ind at the end of the wharf, so that its whereabouts would be indicated at high water. The Harbour -Master reported that the wharf was built and maintained by the Defence Department, and is well covered i*t high water spring tides, and is dangerous to the navigation of that part, especially as there "is a large patch of rocks about 250 yards off with a good channel between. At night this is difficult to locate when the wharf and rocks are covered, at or near high water. The many launches and motor fishing boats working in that direction are glad to use the channel, and it was desirable that the Department should light the end of the wharf or erect a consjScuous beacon thereon. Ii was' decided'on the motion of Mr. Napier, to forward a copy of the letter and report to the officer commanding the district, with a request that a beacon should be erected.
