The Federal Customs excise revenue for the last eight months was £7,817,535, compared with £8,063,626 for the corresponding period last year. Mr Batchelor, Minister for External Affairs, was an interested watcher of the examination of the papers of 15 Chinese seeking entry into the Commonwealth. Mr Batchelor states that their naturalise- j tion papers purported to be issued to men of ages ranging from 45 to 70, whereas the ages of the holders ranged from 21 to 45, and the majority were certainly not 30.
