i The Auckland Fire Board wrote to the » Auckland Harbour Board to-day, enclosi ing a report from Superintendent Wool--5 ley ..dealing with the fire appliances on the . wharves. In the course of the report it j r was stated that the fire appliances on the - wharves were- at one time under the j supervision of and operated upon by the _ brigade, under an agreement with the i Harbour Board, which paid £100 peran--1 num towards the cost. Under this ar- . rangement,. the Council, by whom . lire ,- lirigade matters were at that time cons trolled, expended annually £149, besides c providing wear and tear ror a plant which c had cost them £72. The Brigade officer i- stationed on the wharf inspected all the c hose every week, and in addition, it was I, tested under pressure every six months. s The arrangement having been determined 5 by the Harbour authorities refusing to - contribute any longer towards the cost of :- this special service, the duties were at c once discontinued, and the operations of o the Brigade again confined within the s boundaries of the city. The letter was referred to the Board in committee. A youth named Randolph Day was crushed between some belting at Bys croft's mill this morning.
