A GRUESOME PARCEL.

The inquest commenced on the 11th inst. on the body of the new-born infant found on the water-front at the foot of Nelson-street in the early evening of the 10th inst., was resumed this aiternoon by Mr. A. R. Harris, J.P. Chief Detective R. Marsack said that he regretted no further evidence had been forthcoming since the adjournment. The first witness called was Charles Reid, a labourer" of Heme Bay. On Sunday, the 10th inst., he was working at "the foot of Nelson-street. He noticed a brown paper parcel floating in the water close to the jetty, and secured it. His mate, Joseph Williams, was with him at the time. The witness opened the parcel, and found it contained the body of a male infant. A woman's singlet ivaa wrapped round the body. When he saw what the contents of the parcel were, he at once informed the police, who took possession of the parcel as it -was. The witness had been about six hours in the vicinity of the find. Joseph Williams, a fisherman, Heme Bay (the male referred to), was next called. He was at the gasworks pier at the foot of Nelson-street with the previous witness on the 10th inst. He saw the parcel floating in the water underneath the wharf.
