VICTORIAN PARLIAMENT.
THE NEW ADMINISTRATION. PREMIER'S POLICY SPEECH. (Received 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Mr. Murray, the new Premier, delivered his policy speech last night. There was, he said, little prospect of the year closing with a large surplus owing to heavy reduction in the sum likely to be returned by the Commonwealth. He foreshadowed a loan for reproductive works at the first favourable opportunity. Several measures before the Council at the time of the dissolution would be reintroduced. The programme of the Government included electoral and j land reform, including compulsory pur-, chase of large estates for settlement pur- ; poses, workers compensation, State in- j surance, and the establishment of a Government coal mine. j If, after his visit to New Zealand, the ; Minister for Lands showed any easier ; and better road to extensive productive land settlement, the Government would not hesitate to follow on the lines of the , Dominion. i
