THE GOLDFIELDS.

i ■ ROYAL OAK. The following telegram was posted on the Exchange this afternoon:—2olbs. of picked stone No. 6 level East." TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED. A meeting of shareholders in the Talisman Consolidated Gold Mining Company was held at 2 o'clock this afternoon m the Exchange call room. About 20 were present. Mr. Gi A. Buttle,, of the local committee of shareholders, presided, and briefly sketched out what had been done in the past in the matter of getting New Zealand shareholders direct representation on the London Board of Directors. He said New Zealand shareholders had now three directors on the Board to directly represent them. The trouble was that the Wellington people were not satisfied, and wished to turn out two more of the directors to make room for local representatives. Mr. Wilson was said to have proxies representing 40,000 shares in the Auckland district. That meeting was called so that local shareholders should consider whether they were prepared to be overridden by the Wellington shareholders. It seemed now that the Wellington people had a disposition to shift the local office from Auckland to Wellington. He considered that the local committee had rendered good service to the shareholders, but now they felt they had done their work. He had nothing further to put before the meeting. He thought the local shareholders should now appoint another committee to look after their interests. The present committee, he might say, was entirely opposed to the formation of a local advisary board in New Zealand. Messrs. Knight.and Weston were appointed to disseminate information to the Wellington shareholders, and he understood that Captain Smith and Mr. Hanna were appointed to perform the same duty for the northern shareholders in the Company. Mr. Coe moved a vote of thanks to the shareholders' committee for the work done in the past. This was seconded by Mr. Raynes and agreed to.

Mountain King.—Since last report No. 1 level has been advanced 20£t.fijr 'the w.eek. There is still a heavy flow of water issuing from the face, and the country Is all that can be desired for meeting with goldbearing reefs, and 1 have no doubt that when the reef comes to hand good results will be met with, as there are numerous flinties and silica veins crossing the face.

Maoriland.—The mine manager (Mr. W. Christie) of Maoriland mine at Waitekauri reports, under date of January 17, as follows: "Since last report 'ihe crosscut has been extended 6ft; total 92ft. During the past week the country rock has btAii very hard and difficult to break, makiug progress slow. On Friday evening a softer class of country came in, and a rib of quartz was met with, carrying gold well distributed through the stone in dabs."
