MARK HAMBOURG.
The celebrated pianist Mark Hambourg gave his final recital at the Choral Hall last Saturday evening before a large and highly appreciative audience. Hambourg was in great form, and played his pieces with an infallible mechanism, full of inspiration, and with tlje most refined and delicate shades in his touch. Clear and complete mastering of technical difficulties, power, fullness of tone, and a never-failing memory, were the principal features of the performance given of Beethoven's "Appassionata Sonata," and so insistent was the applause at the close that Hambourg returned and played Chopin's "F Minor Etude." He gave a delightful rendering of Rameau's "Gavotte and Variations"; brought out the massive chords and octaves of Leschetizky's "Taranteile" in splendid fashion, and gave highly finished interpretations of six of Chopin's most popular works. A most enjoyable concert terminated with Liszt's "6th Rhapsody," which received a brilliant performance, and at its conclusion the distinguished visitor was recalled again and again, amidst great enthusiasm, and at last had to play the "Black Study," of Chopin. Mr. Hambourg and his wife left for Wellington yesterday, where the famous pianist is to give several recitals.
