ARRIVAL OF IMMIGRANTS.

* I The steamer Sirrey, Which arrived I from Liverpool last night, brought 173 ■ passengers for the Dominion, made up ' of 12 saloon and 161 steerage passengers. - Their bookings are as follows: —Auck- 1 land: 3 saloon and' 48 steerage; Gisfcome. < f> steerage; Wanganui, 1 steerage; Wellington, 2 saloon and 56 steerage; Nelson, ; 3 steerage; Lyttelton. 2 saloon and 30 ] steerage; Port Chalmers, 5 saloon and 20 steerage. Captain T. Young, the mas- 1 ter of the Surrey, has been in charge of ' vessels taking immigrants to Australia for some thirty years, and he states that he ' has never brought out more desirable : colonists than he hadl witn him on the Surrey. They are a highly respectable class of people, jolly and willing to work. The bulk of the new arrivals are young and middle-aged men. A large percentage of them are married, and they have brought their families with them. The children make quite a modtest contribution to the total, numbering, in ail about 40. On the passage out from Kngland , concerts and theatrical performances were held in the steerage cabin twice a week. Very heavy weather was experienced in the Southern Ocean, but before that and afterwards the weatner was ail that could be desired.
