Lack was with the Victoria Amateur Tnrf Club for the concluding day of their spring meeting. Heavy rain fell throughout Friday night, but a southerly wind sprang up, and the weather cleared before midday. There was a large attendance, and tne stands were crowded. Inter-State visitors exceeded the usual number. The State Governor, Sir Thomas G. Carmichael, was present. The course was in capital order, and the Bower beds and lawns were seen to perfeePrior to the running of the Cup there was trouble with regard to the identification of Maranui. The matter was satisfactorily adjusted, and 22 horses filed out of the paddock to contest the big event. New Zealand had the houour of supplying the favourite with Pink-'un.
