_. NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL. A special meeting of the North e.te Borough Council was held In the Bay Vle . Hall last night. The Mayor (Mr Alex. Bruce) presided, and Councillors Geo. Fraser, A. E. Greenslade, D. A. Gray, H. H. Hunt, P. "VV. Holland, J. B. Tonar, W. H. Rushbrook, and John Broody were also present. ' A reply was received from the Treasury Department, granting provisi .nal approval of the Council's application for a'lpah.qf £4000 (two successive years' expenditure) for forty-one years, at 31 per cent Interest, for- road and street improvements, under; the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1908. On the motion of Councillor Gray, seconded by Councillor Broady, It was resolved to borrow £4000 on the terms and conditions stipulated in the letter from the Treasury. The Town Clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to forward the matter, and to call the meeting of ratepayers, and arrange for the holding of the poll. The Council adjourned till next Tuesday for the consideration of by-laws. FRENCH- CLUB. The French Club met last night. There was a good attendance. M. Boeufve, French Consul, presided. The performance of the ) comedy, "La Vollle Cousire," was the first portion of the programme. Those who took part in it were the following pupils of Mdlle. Bouillon: —Misses D. Nolan, R. Coleman, G. Cole, D. Cole., and Stella Nathan. Refrieshinents were provided by the Misses Keeslng, after which Mr. James Drummond delivered an interesting lecture on "Student Life at Strasburg." The lecturer was thanked by the meeting.
