A PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT.
I BASIS OF THE SETTLEMENT. THE COMPENSATION QUESTION. (Beceived 8.20 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 13. Mr Asquith stated in the House of Commons to-day toat the Government regarded events of the last fortnight in the Balkans as necessitating consideration of the Powers v/ith a view to arriving at a settlement, showing due regard to the interests of Turkey, or any other State, which recent changes may have prejudiced. ! The Government would, he said, strive Ito secure a settlement on both peace- i ful aud equitable lines. He added that a conference had not yet been arranged. The Powers were discussing how a settlement could be attained, and what was to be comprised | therein. I He hoped that those aggrieved would j continue their attitude of moderation | j and restraint, thereby implying a gen- ■ ! eral desire to show fair consideration I for the interests of all. (Cheers.)
