THE COMING ELECTIONS.

_ BAY OF PLENTY. ROTORUA, Tuesday. Mr D. Lundon, independent candidate for Bay of Plenty, addressed a large meeting last night. He explained that he was an independent owing to the change in the ministry. He condemned the Government's land policy, and favoured freehold tenure. He urged the necessity for immigration, severely criticised the action of tbe Government in native land matters, advocated the abolition of the native office, favoured electric trams for Whakarewarewa and the Thermal district. An increased duty on Oregon pine, he said, was absolutely imperative. He ridiculed the Scaffolding Act, favoured the trainig of men to defend the country, and advocated repeal of the Thermal Springs Act. Mr Lundo'n was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. SELWY_N. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Mi* W. J. Dickie, the Government candidate for Selwyn, speaking at Lyndhurst, said he was a warm supporter, of the land legislation of the Liberal Government, but the back-blocks settlers should certainly have the option of acquiring the freehold, and he would be in favour of letting them have the first five years rent free. Tbe candidate was accorded a vote of thanks. Mr. E. G. B. Moss will address the elec■tons in the Oddfellows' Hall, Afanukau-roa-J, Parnell, -this evening at 8 o'clock. Mr. W. F. Masscy, M.P., Leader of the Opposition, will address the electors of Franklin to-morrow night at the Masonic Hail, Pnkekohe. On the following night he will speak at Waiufcn, and at Patumahoe on Saturday evening. Mt. Henry W. Wilding will address the electors of Waitemata in the Zion HiH Schoolroom, Birkenhead, at eight o'clock to-night.
