A DOMAIN INCIDENT.
Further inquiries concerning the Domain incident, in which the homeward journey of two young men was rudely disturbed by an unexpected gun-fire, have been, made by Constable Murdochrivi'th' some clearance of the mystery." From what he gathered, it appears that Hickey and Williams set out' ion a rabbit-shooting expedition, consequent upon the attacks made by bunny on the young plants. Williams said he took a double-barrel-led breech-loading gun and went into the outer Domain, returningjabout 7.20 without having fired a shot. He put up the gun and went home, and his wife said he was not out after nine o'clock. Hickey also said that Williams had the gun and fired no shot, but said at first he left the other man at about 10 o'clock, but afterwards it turned out he had, after partaking of refreshments in Parneil, accompanied a third man to his gate in Parneil, leaving him at about 9.30, getting home, so said his wife, about 10.20 p.m. He denied having used a gun at all, but a muzzle-loading gun in the shed! at the nursery was found to have one barrel with every appearance of having been recently discharged, so that it seems a shot must have been fired by someone, though the marksmanship may have been i indifferent, which was fortunate for the i rabbits, but less happy for the homeward bound pedestrians.
