THE FORMATION OF HIGHLAND CORPS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —After reading "Real Scot's" reply to "Colonial Scot," I am sure he has not looked into the above movement from a practical point of view. Allowing that "Real Scot" would not enlist in an ordinary rifle corps, "like an Englishman," he must see the absurdity of try- , ing to raise an extra company, with the idea that the garb will attract recruits. It is not a pretty uniform that defends a country, it is the man inside it; and I have been in the volunteer service long enough to know that men who enlist in. a company for the sake of its attractive uniform, become regular nuisances and wasters as soon as thenovelty has worn off. I qulie sympa* thise with "Colonial Scot," :as peazs to be a man who knows as I do, that there is room for "Real Scot," and six hundred more in our garrison, if tiey would apply at the Brigade office. I am sore the staff officers would be only too pleased to draft them into the wjeaker companies, because they are badly wanted.—l am, etc., SERGEANT.
