ARBITRATION COURT.

COMPENSATION CASES. The sittings of the Arbitration Court were continued yesterday afternoon, before Mr. Justice Sim, and Messrs. S. Brown and J. S. McCullough. A DISPUTED ACCIDENT. After hearing further evidence in the case of Albert Tienen, claimant for compensation against the Union S.S. Company, in regard to an alleged accident on board the s.s. Wanaka, the Bench, on the application of Mr. R. McVeagh (for respondent), adjourned the case to enable the evidence of the other engineers on the boat to be obtained when the vessel arrived at a New Zealand port. INJURIES TO A HAND. William John Thorpe, sawmiller and bushman instituted a claim for £125 against Hunter Bros, and D. Goldie, with respect to an accident sustained on May 6 whilst in their employ. Dr. Bamford appeared for claimant. Mr. McGregor, for respondents, stated that the accident was admitted, the only question being one of assessment. They held that the man was now, or would soon be, able to follow his former occupation. Dr. Briffault, giving evidence as to the injuries, whioh comprised the loss of two joints of the first finger of the left hand, and injuries to the other fingers, said that the hand would never be as good as formerly, although the man could perform such work as driving a cart or & team. His Honor decided to issue an order for payment of £1 7/- per week during the incapacity of claimant, provided that if Thorpe returned to work with respondents at the same wage as before the accident, the order would be suspended while he was working for them. Credit would be given for £15 already paid by respondents. Costa would be given for claimant, amounting to £ 7 7/-, and witnesses' expenses would be fixed by the Clerk of Awards. "■
