GERMAN ARMY CONTRACT LET IN AUSTRALIA. 12.0G0 KOREANS KILLED BY J._?AN__E. BRISBANE, October 4. Information has .been received from Shanghai, via Thursday Island, to the effect that Mr Jones, ex-Queensland agent in the East, has secured for the North Queensland Meat Export Compagy a contract to supply canned beef to the German forces in China during the ensuing 12 months. The health of the Chinese Emperor is causing grave anxiety to the foreign ambassadors. It 13 of no use to insist on European medical assistance, as it is against the etiquette of the Manchu dynasty, but native doctors are being sent from all parts of the empire. It is reported in the East that the postponement of the Japanese exhibition is due to the determination of the American and German manufacturers not fo exhibit, owing to the conduct of theJapanese in using European trade marks, etc. Japanese official reports state that 12,000 Korean insurgents were killed up to the end of July, while the Japanesa lost 170 men killed.
