A NEW COLONIAL CLUB.
The opening reception of the Imperial Colonial Club and Overseas Union took place yesterday afternoon, August 20th, on the club's premises, 84, Piccadilly, and was largely attended by members and visitors from the colonies. Among those present, in addition to Princess "Marie Louise de Bourbon, the guest of the afternoon, were Sir Horace Tozer (Agent-General for Queensland), Mme. Sarah Grand, Sir Thomas and Lady Brook-Hitching, Lady Mansfield Clarke, Colonel Fox, Mine. Ella Russell, General Sir Harry Prendergast, V.C., and Mr. F. Dutton. The guests were received by Colonel H. Finn, C.B. (vice-chairman), and several members of the committee. A programme of music was performed under the direction of Miss Janotha (Court pianist to the German Emperor), and included a mazurka "Espanola" (Janotha), dedicated to the Queen of Spain. The latter composition contained a fanfare of silver trumpets, aud in the lullaby a medley by Princess Henry of j Battenberg. Another item in the programme, "Sunny Month of May," was' composed by Princess Henry of Battenberg. Several colonial artists contribut-1 ed musical selections, among the number being. Miss Boswell-Reid and Mr. Harry Kerr (Australia), and Mr. Fred. Hill "(New Zealand). Mme. Ella Russell
sang "Aye Maria" (Janotha) and a Spanish serenade "Lolita" (Buzzi-Pieca), at the conclusion of which she was requested by Sir Horace Tozer, on behalf of the committee, to allow herself to be elected as an honorary life member of the club, and she signified that she would accept the honour with great pleasure. Miss Cora Moore sang the "Chanson de Florien" (Goddard), and •'God Bless the Prince of Wales" was played by the Welte Mignon.
