PENGUIN-GERTIE COLLTSION. i CBy TelegraE.-.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collision of the steamer Gertie with the steamer Penguin, offj Jackson's Head, on September 3, was continued this afternoon. . C. A. Pearson, second engineer of the I Gertie, and J. W. Watson, chief-mate of the Gertie, gave evidence. The latter ] said the action of the Penguin's master in porting his helm and running between the beacon and the headland was, j to his mind, the cause of the collision. F. R. Gamble, second officer of the Penguin, who was on the bridge whenl the. collision occurred, said if the cap-' tairi of the Gertie had starboarded his helm, instead of porting it, she would I have cleared the Penguin. ._
