BOXING.
At Perth recently Dinnie and Bannon met for the wrestling championship of Australia. llannon attacked vigorously, but, owing to Dinnie's heavy weight, was unable to turn him on his back. Bannon showed more science, while Dinnie had the advantage of strength and 2st weight. When the contest had been in progress for 40 minutes, Dinnie lost his temper, and. seizing Bannon around the neck, gradually forced him towards the footlights, with the obvious intention of throwing him into the orchestral stalls. The referee sternly ordered Tiim to return to the mat, and. finally had to force tho men apart. Dinnie's conduct created an uproar, the spectators hooting him. On breaking away, Bannon chased Dinnie across the stage, raining blows on his face. Dinnie made no attempt to defend himself, and was smothered in blood. He was afterwards taken to the hospital. The match was awarded lo Bannon on what the referee described as a deliberate foul. Some months ago Dinnie. in a contest with Bert Woods, threw him into the stalls in the same manner. Since then Dinnie has been very unpopular in West Australia. A cable dated London. Tuesday evening, states that .Tack Johnson, the black pugilist, left London that day, en route for Australia. Five hundred of his admirers made him farewell at Charing Cross Station. Johnson is confident he will be able to settle Burns in 12 rounds. Burns is equally confident that he can stop the big coloured man in 20 rounds, and lie is prepared to stake £2000 in support of bis opinion."
