PROMOTION OF TEACHERS.
For the last five years the Teachers' Institute has been trying lor a definite promotion - scheme for teachers. Recently Mr. E. C. Purdy, of tAe Board of Education, put forward a scheme, whieii tbe Board asked the Institute to consider. At the quarterly meeting, of the Institute today, the scheme was discussed. On the whole the scheme -was "approved, but some amendments were suggested. Clause 3 was altered to read: "To the effect that in the classification list inspectors should omit all teachers' who singified thai they did not seek promotion." ~& proposal by air. Newton was carried as an amendment to clause 8. ' The amendment was in accord with a. resolution previously passed by the Institute and one passed by the New Zealand Institute, and proposed the substitution of 60 marks for 70 in efficiency, 20 for 15 in attendance, and 20 Tor 13 in. length of service.
