SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
TRIAL SPXW BY XOWMS.
(Received 5.30 a.m.)
LONDOX, October 1. Geo. Town? had a trial spin over the full course of the race between himself and Barry for the sculling championship of England, on 12th inst. He covered the distance from Putney to Mortlake, the championship course, 4A miles, in 22 mm. 25 sac.
Towns' time indicates that he has completely recovered from the bout of influenza which recently affected him, and has reached the top of his form. Tie record for the course, a swift tide assist ing, is 21 mm. 1 sec, held by Jake Gaudaur, the Canadian ex-champion, and to approach within a minute and a-half of that time in a trial spin is a fine performance.
