NAVAL SUBSIDY.
-» . £100,000 ANNUALLY. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Naval Subsidies Bill, introduced this morning, provides for the annual payment of £ ] x OO,OOO for ten years towards the maintenance of tho Imperial ■SNavy, the subsidy to be payable in halfyearly equal instalments. With reference to the Otahuhu train service, "Otahuhu Resident" writes:— "l noticed a couple of nights ago, in the columns of your paper, an item mentioning that the members of the Otahuhu Progressive League were very dissatisfied with the present running of the Otahuhu motor train service. From enquiries made, I learn that there is a movement on foot by the members of this body, having for its special object the cancelling of the 9 p.m. train Auckland to Otahuhu. If my information is correct, this is a decided mistake, and one which is not in keeping with the objects of the League, viz., the advancement of Otahuhu. Although this train has only been on the time-table for a short time, it is already well patronised, and enquiries I have made from a number of people have elicited the same answer, that this particular service is supplying the long-felt want of a business train, one which gives the resident who is detained in the city a chance of reaching his home before 10 p.m.
