Mr P. H. Mohr (bandmaster Ist Bat-J talion Band, Auckland) has received a letter i'rorn Mr G. H. Hutt, secretary Whangarei Carnival Committee, asking if he will consider a proposal that he should be. appointed as judge of the Whangarei Band Contest, to be held in December next. Mr Mohr, who has a thorough knowledge of band contests, should make a competent adjudicator, for, in addition to beiug a. thorough musician and brilliant cornetist, he has himself as a conductor in ti.. contest Geld, gaining with the Ist Battalion Band during the last four years two firsts, one second, as well as several smaller prizes, and at the present time his band holds the Shield for the championship of New Zealand. With reference to a request that the Government steamer Hinemoa should be i sent out to search for the missing barque | Loch Lomond in the area not taken in by the Otterburn's search from Newcastle, the Minister for Marine, the Hon. \ J. A. Millar, has replied that it is impossible to act on the suggestion, as the Hinemoa has stores on board for the i and is r.ow overdue. The' I Minister inderstands that the Union Co. are sending a search steamer into the | Tasniai: Sea, and another to the Auck- ' land islands. Among the many suggestions that have been made to the Minister is one that the Government, the Union ' Co-, and the relatives of the crew should combine to charter a steamer to make a i thorough search for the missing vessel.
