STEAMEP ASHORE.
(By Telegraph. —Press Association.) "■•."ELLINGTON, this day. The chief postmaster at Westport rei ports that the steamer Ngunguru is ! stranded on Karamea Bar. She is still 'on the beach, and there is no chance oi getting her off. It is now proposed to launch her over the spit into the river by the aid of jacks, etc. The vessel is full of water. The crew have jettisoned the timber. It will be several weeks before the steamer will be able to resume her trips. The mails were secured in good condition. The Ngunguru is a wooden steamer of 105 tons gross, and was formerly owned by the Northern Co.. of Auckland. She j .vas built at Auckland in 18?3, and was I sold three or four years ago i:i exchange for the Mangapapa. Her present owners are the Karainea Steam-hip Co., Ltd.
