WHANGAREI ITEMS.
WHAXGAREi; Wednesday. A meeting of the Hospital Board Committee was held last night, when It was resolved to hold a ball in aid of the funds of the hospital on Thursday. October Ist, in the Drill Hall.
At the Theatre Royal last night a concert was given by the Philharmonic Society. Ihe programme >vas of a high-clnss and classical nature, reflecting great credit on the progress of the Society since its inception. The orchestra of 16 members "adies and gentlemen), under Conductor Lange, gave a very effective rendering of Verdi's • Tancredi," and selections from "Caliph of Bagdad," "Jl Trovatore," "Samson," and Mendelssohn's "Wedding March." Interspersed were vocal and musical items by ladies and gentlemen of the Society, each meeting with loud applause. The "Society will shortly stage the opera, "KJLs Pinafore."
