BOROUGH COUNCILS.

GREY LYNN, The Grey Lynn Boroiigb. Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. Sayers) and Messrs Garland. A. Creamer, Smith, Murray, W". Dimery, Muldoon, Holdsworlh, and Schofield. Drainage of Cox's Creek.—The City Council Town Clerk (Mr H. W. Wilson) forwarded a report furnished by the City Kngineor (Mr "W. E. Bush) regarding the drainage of Cox's Creek. Mr Bush pointed out that Cox's Creek was uncovered practically for two-thirds of every tide, and was a site ripe for reclamation. Before any proposed works were undertaken, the question required careful consideration. Although its present state was doubtless not "conducive to the good health of the neighbourhood, yet any temporary dealing with the nuisance would be only of doubtful benefit. In his opinion any scheme should provide works of n permanent and beneficial character. Tht> report was referred to thp Drainage Committee. Auckland Drainage Bill.—A communication from the Hon. G. Fowlds, Minister for Education and Public Health, conveyed his promise to do all he could to get the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Bill passed this "sessiou. .He also promised to do what he could to get the Arch Hill gully drain mentioned in the bill. Tue Mayor intimated that he had- interviewed several Auckland Members of Parliament during his recent visit to Wellington, and he had teen Inform-. e<3 that the bill would probably become law this session, with several trifling amendments. PARNELI. The Parnell Borough Council mot last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. 6. W. Basley). Messrs. J. S. Briggs, G. Fowler. J. U. London. G- Thomson, and W. Johns. Stanley-street Sewer. —Regarding the extension of the Staiil'ey-street sewer, it was decided that a committee should represent Parnell at the conference to be held on the 2Sth inst between the Harbour Board, City Council Works Committee. anC Parnell Council, to discuss the subject. ■Suggested Caruegie Library —'Keferenee was made to the proposed building of a free library, suggestions having been received that Mr. Carnegie shonld be applied to for a grant towards its erection. A letter was received, advising that 20 architects be invited to send iv competitive designs, the architpct-pnbmitting the Approved

plan to receive the work, and the two foLlowing in order of merit to be awarded premiums. It was resolved to leave the discussion of the question till nest meet:bk of the Council.
