TRADES COUNCIL CONFERENCE.

WELLINGTON, Friday.
At the sitting of the Trades and Labour Council to-day, the following resolutions were carried: —
"That the Conference be asked to recommend the abolition of the late closing night now existent in shops, in order to bring grocers', drapers', and other shop assistants under the same hours of labour as prevail in trades."
"That the Government be urged to introduce legislation to provide for a universal compulsory Saturday half-holi-day."
"That the Government be urged to introduce legislation to provide for a universal compulsory weekly day of rest."
"That the Government be urged to amend the Shops and Offices Act, giving the police power to sec that the provisions of the Act ara complied with."
'"That the Government be urged to introduce legislation this present session similar to that existing in the Mother Country, viz., to make it a punishable offence to operate against any witness after lie lias given evidence in any court."
"That the Government be urged to increase tho duty on Oregon pine coming into the Dominion."
"That the Government be urged to so amend the Municipal Corporations Act as to provide that the duties of a borough or suburban building inspector shall include the issuing of certificates showing the class of material a building ia composed of, the said certificate to be filed in the borough council's office for inspection."
"That in the opinion of this Conference it is time the Government took into consideration the housing problem."
"That the Government be urged to build workers' homes moro speedily than in the past."
'■That the Government discontinue the leasing or alienation of mineral lands of the Dominion, -with a view to the State undertaking the working of all mineral resources."
"That the Conference approve tbe prin ciple of tho National Annuities Bill."
"That Labour representatives be appointed on harbour boards, charitable aid boards, and land boards."
"That the workers of the Dominion oe urged to vote no-license, with a. view to taking tho traffic under the control of the State."
The last-mentioned resolution was adopted by 17 votes to 7.
