Signor 8. Vila, , of Milan, Italy, is touring New Zealand; and is at present at Rc-corim: " " Two well-known Onelmnga residents, Messrs. W. Morton, sen., and D. Neilson arc very seriously ill. Mr. W. Smart, superintending engineer to the Union S.S. Co., is at present on a visit to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. C. E: Bntton, who are visiting their o*ughter in Ohina, hay« arrived at Chefoo. After a short stay there they expect to leave for New Zealand, via Japan, early in October next. Amongst the passengers who will journey by the Tofua from Auckland next week, on the round trip of the islands, are Mr. P. L. Pittman (Te Aroha), Mr. J. Duthie, Dr. J. B. Thomson (Dunedin), Rev. Father O'Reilly (Dunedin). Mr. and Mrs. Scott-Yonng, and Mr. A. Bagnall. Mr. Kdward Crow, civil and mechanical engineer, late of Dunedin, and at present a temporary surveyor on the staff of the Auckland City Council, has been offered and has accepted the appointment of engineering instructor at the Wanganui Technical School. He leaves Auckland in about four weeks' time. Mr. A. A. Barnett, an old colonist, and a well-known commercial man in Wel- | lington, died in that city on Wednesday j evening. Mr. Barnett, who was 7C years of age, arrived in Australia in 1854. After a few years' residence in Victoria he came over to New Zealand, and he ■had been connected with commercial affairs in this country ever since hia arrival, being in business as a merchant at Dunedin in the gold mining days of the early sixties. Subsequently he began business as an auctioneer in Wellington, but for the past 10 years ha had been living in retirement. —(Press Association.) '■
