(By TelegrapU.—Press Association.) WELLIXGTOS. Thursday. A return is published In to-night*B "Gazette" of the areas laid down in corn, Si-asses, etc.. iv the Dominion and the actual yields. Three mouths ago a returu showing the estimated yield per acre of wheat, oats, and barley was published, and it is now interesting to compare this with the actual results, which show the estimates were framed on moderate lines. Thus, the estimated yield of wheat was 27 bushels per acre and the actual yield was 2S-84 bushels per acre. The estimated yield of oats was 30 bushels, and the actual yieid was 35.82. Barley: Estimated. 20; actual, 32.15. The area for threshing last season was 193,031 acres compared with 206.155 for the previous season, and the total yield was 5,587,139 bushels, compared with 5,606,252 in the previous year (when the average per acre was 27.1S bushels). The supplies of wheat and flour are shown as under:—Total .yield of wheat. 5,567,139 bushels. Wheat nud flour on hand October 31, 1807, 1,641.251 bushels. Wheat and flour imported from November 1 to February 29, 124,271 bushels. Total. 7.332,661 bushels. Wheat and flour exported from November 1 to February 2D, 4756 bushels; consumption for the same period (960,000 persons at 6 bushels per head per annum), 1,920,000 bushels; total, 1,924,758 bushels. Available for all purposes February 29, 1908, 5,407,905 bushels. Canterbury was, of course, the greatest wheat producing district and Han-ke's Bay the lowest though sharing with Taranaki the honour of the highest average per acre (34 bushels).
