Two of hit portmanteaux, which""were; packed all" ready for the journey with articles valued". at about £30,_were' removed by some unauthorised individual, who must surely have experienced unpleasant foreboding*, when he discovered that on top of the. contents of each bag was-a pair of hand-' cuffs. The poundkeeper. at Hunterville brought a curious case before the Rangitikei County Cowncil at its last meeting. A horse of little value had been impounded and poundage fees amounted to 30/. The alleged owner refused to pay the fees on the plea that he hadisold the horse, but when it was put up for sale, it is stated by the poundkeeper, he ser\; a man who bought it for 2/6. The alleged owner,'it was stated!, publicly rejoiced at this cheap * way of avoiding payment, but the Council recommended the poundkeeper to take legal action to recover the balance dual on the animal.
