FLEET WEEK HOLIDAYS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In reading your report of a dVicussion by the Board of Education .regarding the week's holiday during the visit of the American fleet, I .was not a little amazed at the chairman's atti tude in the matter. While quite within his right in offering objection to the granting of the 'holiday, one would have expected a little less discourtesy and a more dignified manner of doing so oa his part. There-was certainly no necessity whatever for,any reflections on the teachers in dealing with the question. I understand the Executive and Legislative Councils, together with tihe House of Representatives, *re to have the week's holiday. Does Mr Bagnall pro- - 11 pose to question their honesty and at the same time move a reduction of a 1 week's pay in their case?'. Should he do ■ «o, I shall have much pleasure in second- • ing his motion. Just fancy, the whole • business of the Dominion at\a standstill 1 for a week. Prodigious! !—I am, etc, 1 JOHN MACDONALD.
