JEWEL ROBBERY.

SYDNEY, June 19. The residence of Mr Henry Bean, Elizabeth Bay Road, was robbed of a large quantity of jewellery yesterday. The robbery probably occurred betweent 7.30 p.m. and 8, o'clock. Mm Boan stated yesterday that she went to the drawer in which the valuables were kept about 1 p.m., and it was not until 830 pm that she noticed anything amiss. At that hour she entered the room, and found a number of jewelcases lying about the floor. In th.» meantime the keys were in the drawer. Mrs Boan states that she left them there at 1 o'clock, and simply drew the toilet cover down in such a way that the keys were hidden. Apparently the theft was executed swiftly by someone who knew the plan of the house, and where jewellery was kept. A feature of the case, which lends colour to belief that the thief was surprised is that valuable jewellery was left untouched in Mrs Boan's drawer, These included two gold watches and a bangle, and in all are valued at £150. It is believed that the robbery occurred while the family were at dinner. i Careful examination was made on the i premises for finger-prints, but none were revealed, and the police are baffled in that direction. Indeed, last uight the police admitted that the affair seemed hopeless, so completely bare was it of any clue. The jewellery stolen consisted of a gold chain necklet and pendant, set with diamonds and turquoises, valued at £350, and the' following articles pair of diamond and turquoise ear-rings, a diamond "flying swallow," hair ornament set with rubies, two ladies' diamond rings, a lady's gold diamond and ruby dress ring, two gold medallions,, set with pearls, a gold bangle set with rubies and pearls, two gold brooches., a gold cable bangle, with gold open-faced watch. The value of the whole ifl about ,£SOO. __.. Ja .,| .
