(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Saturday evening the Leamington Town Board met. The striking of a rate ot Od in tlic fl wus confirmed. The tender of Mr H. Pike for road work wus accepted: Two horses and dray, 14/; one horse and dray, 12/; man only, G/. It was resolved to ask that a commissioner be appointed to allocate the amount to be paid by the Board on the Cambridge high level bridge, and who are the owners of the gravel reserves in the district. A lively public meeting was held at Leamington on Saturday evening to consider the altering of the name given to the town district. Mr Dillon moved that the name be altered to Cambridge South, and this was seconded by Mr Kingdom, but eventually it was decided to leave the name Leamington The executive committee of the Waikato Central Agricultural Association met on Saturday afternoon. Mr E. Veale was unanimously roappoluted secretary The Wai kato Hunt Club applied for an extension of their lease of the show ground for raciuir purposes. XiberUand beat Waipu, 22 points to 3 points- Albertland beat Maungaturoto, 3 points to nil Mr. John Stall worthy, M.l', for Kaipara has given pre-sessional addresses in Port .Albert, Wellsford, and Tauhoa At each meeting a representative gathering of electors was present, and accorded the speaker an attentive hearing. Mr. Stallworthy spoke for two hours, ably defending the work of the Liberal party and the measures passed last session of Parliament At Ihe conclusion of each address the member for Kaiparu received a unanimous and hearty vote of thanks for his able address The movement to secure a resident medical practitioner at Wellsford j s W oll ad vnnced and in a short space of' time it is hoped the much-needed functionary will be established.
The weekly output of apples has been well sustained, and, though the crop is not as heavy as last season's, some of the oreh.irdists will secure heavier yields than anticipated. The Albertland settlers' forty-sixth anniversary public tea and entertainment came off with quite equal success to previous annual gatherings Mr John Stallworthy, M.P. for Kalpara.', presided at the evening meeting. Mrs. namilton Hodges, of Auckland, gave great satisfaction In her rendering of several solos of high merit Some thirty school-children (nnder the leadership of Mr. C. Rottomly, assisted by Mrs. Bottomly and Miss Linda Reerofti gave a pleasant rendering of the cantatn "The Fairies of the Season." It was tasted fully staged, and received much applause from the audience.
