A NEW AIRSHIP.
SUCCESSFUL TRIAL EIGHTEEN PERSONS ABOARD. ~ -; BEUNE, June 22. , Count Zeppelin's new airship, which is '450 feet in "length, with,, 13, persons, aboard,, including. Prince .George of. Bavaria, crossed Lako Constance to Friedrichshaven, at a height of 300 feet. The vessel was.... easily able to rise,' descend, and :'j, manoeuvre, with., .and against the-wind. , • '■ '■ ■ i : . , Zeppelin's great airship is constructed on similar lines to that which made its trials in 1907. This vessel was commenced in 1899, and .an enormous stun was spent in its construction, the inventor, besides obtaining assistance from his friends, being voted £25,000 by the German : Government, who acquired the inventor's rights. It was smaller than the new craft, being 413 feet long, and 38 feet in diameter, and. containing 367,000 cubic feet: of hydrogen. It was propelled by two'" 85 h.p. engines, driving four three-bladed propellers at .the sides of the vessel. Its average' speed in calm weather was 30 miles an hour, and it manoeuvred with great success Constance, with a crew of eleven men. On one occasion it was in'the';air for 8 hours, and travelled 220 miles with and against the wind. » •- - ■ ' ■ ■ -•
