At the conference yesterday between | members of the Auckland City Council | and the directors of the Auckland Gas > Company, in connection with the proposed new road ti> connect Harbour-street with Beaumont-street, Mr. J. H. Upton (a director of the Company) expressed his opinion that a result of the reclamation works at present in course of construction at Freeman's Bay would bathe partial filling in, through the action of tides and currents alone, of the extensive stretch water lying to the west of the works and towards Shelly Beach. "I am convinced," he said, "that it will so silt up in the basin that it will, to a considerable extent, be reclaimed naturally in ymrs to'come."
