COUNTRY NEWS.
1 (From Our Own Correspondent.) MAMAKU. A public meeting was held in the hall on the evening of the Oth inst to consider the question of local representation, there being uo local body, as the district is witliiii the Thermal Spriug area, it was resolved to form an association, to be culled the Mamaku Progressive League. The objects of the league ate to place before the authorities the requirements of the district, and to agitate for the removal of disabilities. The following gentlemen were elected a committee to carry out the purposes of the association:—Messrs. Cecil H. Cliukard (president), E. Martin, C. Hemmlngs. 11. Boulton and G. Skelleru. The committee were instructed to take active steps to impress the claims of the Mamabu-Te Puke railway route and to take up such other matters as they may consider most urgent.
