. , GEOLOGICAL SURVEY. • (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ' WAIHI, this day. Dr. Bell, of the Geological Survey Department, is engaged on geological "work in the Hauraki mining district. In the course of a conversation he remarked that this district was under the super- j '■ vision of Mr. Colin Fraser. He (Dr. Bell) • was, however, specially interested in the ': field, and he intended remaining in it - for the greater part of the winter. The j result of his investigations he hoped ■ 1 to record in 0.3 next issue of the bulie- • tiii publishe-, v y the Geological Survey ' Department. For the past -vveek or two ; Dr. Bell, assisted by Mr. Colin Fraser, has ; been working around the mines at Thames- Meanwhile the field work in i the ranges behind the Thames is. bein" ; continued by a party under the manager 1 ment of Mr. MePherson, acting under t the supervision of Mr. Fraser. The great question of interest at the Thames, Dr. . Bell says, is whether or not there is a , permanent fault or slide of country along , the shore front. If this slide exists the • counterpart of the rich ground at the , Thames probably lies beneath the waters of tho Hauraki Gulf, giving great possi- , bilitics of deep mining on the Thames ( held. On these questions generally, Dr. ; Bell is reticent until his investigations . are completed. 1 MAOBILAND. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
