Owing to much sickness in Waihi, samples of drinEng water have been, taken. In some of the lower portions of the town some of the samples are full of sedimentary matters, pointing to the need for filtration at the reservoir. At a meeting of tbs Education Board this morning the resignation of Mr. E. 0. Purdie (Inspector of Schools), on the grounds of ill-health, was received and! accepted. On the mt.tion of Mr. L. J. Bagnall (chairman), it was decided to grant Mr. Purdie leave of absence until the end of April on full pay. It was decided to invite applications for the vacancy thus created at a salary of £400 per annum, applications to be received up to April 27th. To-night the annual demonstration in connection with the People's Mission Sunday-school will take place in the St. James' Hall, Wellington-street.
