Government Purchase of Socks. (Received 7.55 a.m.) LONDON, March 31. The seriousness of the Governments resolve to cope with the problem of the London docks, which have suffered so much in the past from divided control, is reflected in the announcement that the President of the Board of Trade (Mr. Lloyd-Gororga) has concluded arrangements for the purchase of the Millwall docks. [There has been a growing sense during the past two years that the port of London, if it is to be saved from taking a minor position as compared with four or five other British ports, must be brought under one central dock authority. Mr. Lloyd-George has not finally enunciated the policy of complete Government acquisition, but his views are clearly in that direction, and, moreover, there is a tendency on the part of some of the dock companies to sell out on reasonable terms. A cablegram published on March 25 announced that the directors of the India docks bad recommended their proprietors to accept the offer of Mr. Lloyd-George to purchase them as part jof the Government scheme.]
