POLICE COURT.

(Before Mr. C. C. Kettle, SJ_L) * SO E__l_MßE__f._. Henry Simpson disclaimed any knowledge whatever of his reported diversions at Whitehead's restaurant last night. His performance opened with the discussion of a meal, concluding which he questioned the .privilege of the proprietor to make charge, ana th,en during the lively part of an hour the restaurant and its immediate neighbourhood resounaed with Simpson's remarks, punctuated occasionally by his playful manipulation of the crockery. One of the plates that took an airing soared in merry proximity to the head of the proprietor, who then carried the war into the country of the enemy, ejecting and handing him over to the police.

Simpson's only explanation was that he had only come out of the Waikato Hospital on Saturday, had come down to town and gone out in search of work at Mt. Roskill. That was all he remembered. His mind was an absolute blank respecting the doings of the past night, and, in fact, he was sceptical some as to such happenings, with himself in the leading role, knowing his own generally inoffensive disposition. However, all he could express was bis sorrow if it did happen. His Worship decided that a week's remand for medical treatment was the best thing for Simpson. INEBRIATE. J Oliver Scott's disordered imagination I ran its owner's tongue into a wonderful and fearful rigmarole, in which floated largely a man who exerted a strong and mysterious influence', scientific research into the written secrets of the brain, and the wanderings of Oliver himself from the moment of an appointment with the mysterious unknown at the Asylum gates, through a series of wanderings in sundry directions, down to his appearance for he didn't know what in the Police Court dock. The unfortunate victim of hallucinations was remanded for medical examination. Three over-night seafaring jubilators were each hastened back to their vessels wise or less wise from experience. GRAVE CHARGE AGAINST SHIP'S OFFICER. A thick-set, ruddy-complexioned man named Richard Dyson, of the sea, and a ship's mate, appeared under charge of having, on the evening of the 29th inst., attempted to commit rape upon a young woman of twenty-three years. Sub-Inspector Gordon asked for a reland until Monday next, no objection eing made by accused's counsel, Mr. inger. Bail was allowed in two sure:es each of £100 and accused's own re3gnisance of £200. HARE'S MATRIMONY. Annie Hare, represented by Mr. Singer, omplained that her husband, Frederick Lare. for whom Dr. Bamford appeared, ad failed to contribute anything towards the support of their six-year-old on, the fruits of a marriage at Albany, Vestern Australia, in 190S, and that he ,as about to leave the colony without laking provision for the child. According o Mrs. Hare, her husband had contri>uted nothing either to the support of ;erself or her child for some time past, he herself earning their maintenance. _yen the whereabouts of her husband 'ere unknown to her, until last year she leard he was at Waihi, and - she then n-oceeded there to see him. He, howver, told her that he had no intention if supporting her, and that anyway she .as not his wife, a remark which proLuced from her the retort that she was lis wife, and he would have to support ler. After this visit to Waihi she went ■o Australia in an endeavour to secure a livoree.

Under cross-examination, Mrs. Hare denied that her husband had obtained her a job in a bar at Waihi, or that he had given her £40 while she was-dowa there.

Hare declared that he had wired for his wife to go to Waihi, and that he had there given her £4D, part of the proceeds of some successful racecourse speculation. As for the boy, he himself had placed him to board with a Mrs. Lambert, of Devonport, and he produced receipts for board in support of his contention. He and his wife for some time stayed at the Criterion Hotel, during which time he paid for her hoard. They had a disagreement, however, and she went away to Sydney, he understood, for good. He refuted absolutely the allegation that he was about to desert the child, as he had but just come to Auckland to take over an appointment. ''I am of opinion that the information was laid and the warrant of arrest issued without reasonable grounds," commented Mr. Kettle, in dismissing the information. THE SEAMY SIDE. Beer was the prime big cause of the trouble between himself and his wife, agreed John Graham, accused of using such provoking and insulting language to his spouse as to occasion her no little alarm and a lively desire to see John bound over to the observance of peace. Graham was ordered to find a surety of £ 10 for bis good behaviour, a fortnight's grace being allowed him Dor maturing of the order, while his existing obligation to contribute 15/ towards his wife's support was reduced by consent to 10/. An order of separation was made against Joseph Trainer, the wife to have custody of the children, defendant to contribute 22/ a week towards thesupport of his family, with Court costs. The order was made in accordance with a deed of separation agreed upon between the parties, but which Trainer subsequently refused to sign. M-____T__S.__-fCE. William White was ordered to contribute 5/ a week towards the support of each of his two children at St. Mary's Industrial School, the current order against him in favour of his wife to bo correspondingly reduced. Mrs. Audain was ordered to contribute 2/6 a week towards the support of her son, Prince Audain, an inmate of the Werarou Industrial School.
