•WAXBOu WAIHI, Monday. Mr. Boyd Thompson, manager at the abattoirs, has been admitted to the hospital to undergo a serious operation. Dr. Robertson, medical superintendent of the hospital, is away on a week's holiday. Mr. J. Farrell, architect to the Board of Education, visited Waihi East School today in connection with the additions to building, and it is expected that the work will be proceeded with at ence. A cricket match between elevens elected by Messrs. C. Cornthwaite and p. Mackay was played on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a drawn game, each side scoring 67 runs. The top scorers were: 20; Moor, 17: Young. 15; Mackay. 15; Chappell, 13; Cornthwaite, 10. Next Saturday the inter-county match Thames v. Waihi will be played at ThamesLast night an interesting lecture on "Why Men Do Not Go to Church" was delivered by E. G. Hicks, ot Wellington, at the Academy of Music. There was a large attendance, and the hospital funds, in aid of which a collection was taken up, will be benefitted by £13 odd, including Government subsidy. Young, one of the victims of the Waiorangomai mining accident, has had his gT-m amputated at the hospital, this step having been deemed necessary in order to save bis life.
