A BOY DROWNED.

HAMILTON, this day.
A parade of the Hamilton and Ngaruawahia Troops, •£ Squadron, 2nd Regiment, Auckland Mounted Rifles, was held on Saturday to elect a captain, vice Captain Bell, who has been promoted'to the command of the regiment. There ■ were forty-seven present, and the election resulted in favour of Lieut. James Eaynes. Hamilton West High School hold their annual picnic at Te Aroha on Wednesday.
An inquest was held at Tuhikaramea yesterday on Samuel Burns Croker, -who died on the previous -day. Deceased had -been frequently attended by Dr. Recce, but, «.s the latter is now on his way to Englafid, a certificate had not been procurable. A verdict of death due to consumption was returned.
A telegram received by Inspector Cullen reports that Te Haeata, a Maori boy aged seven years, while bathing in the Waikato River with a number of other children, was drowned. The body has not yet been recovered.
NGARUAWAHIA, this day.
The annual meeting of the local branch of the Farmer's Union was held on Saturday. Mr. W. Miller was elected president; Mr. James, vice-president; Mr. E. Raihborne, secretary and treasurer; Messrs. Duxfield. Paterson (2) and Carless, executive; and Mr. Duxfield delegate to the Provincial Conference. The following remit will be sent to the next conference: "That local authorities should be responsible for the eradication of noxious weeds growing on roads."
A Maori boy, eight years of age, was drowned near the railway bridge yesterday while bathing. The body has not yet been recovered.
