LAUGHTER IN A CONVENT.
HOW KING ALFONSO SURPRISED THE NCNS. A charming simplicity characterises the movements of the Spanish Royal Family and Prince Arthur of Ccnuaught in Seville. Without c semblance of an escort or any other protection, they go out (cays the Ma- ! drid correspondent of the "Evening Standard") for waiks in the most crowded streets : ccived wita almost frantic thai I becomes at times a trifle embarrassing. i To escape these attentions the King and ihis brother-in-law sonjetlmrs steal out oi the Palace of the Alcazar by a back door and road through the suburbs without beln s recognised. Recently they visited the Convent or San Leandro, wliore the good tiuns make the famous confectionery. The King bought four boxes of sweetmeats at a sovereign ! apiece and when the nuns, who failed to \ recognise their visitor, asked him where! they should send his purchase, he replied:— "To my wife, the Queen, and to my babj-, the Prince of rhs Asturias." The poor nuns were dumbfounded, and the King departed loughing heartily at their confusion.
