ARBITRATION COURT.

WHARF LABOURERS' DEMANDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Arbitration Court at to-day's sitting proceeded with the hearing of the wharf labourers' dispute, the Union Steam Ship Company, Wellington Harbour Board, the local and foreign-going shipowners being severally represented. The demands of the union included Saturday half-holfday for all classes of labour, or overtime pay in lieu thereof; an increase of 3d for working- cement, lime, manure, and shale; an increase of 2d for handling coal on shovel and top work; an increase of 6d for handling frozen produce in freezing chambers, and 3d in cool chambers; proper accommodation and fares for out ports, and payment from the time of leaving the place of engagement till returning for the men working in the stream. The demands for holidays are practically the same as in the existing award. Other new features wore that the men should be paid overtime for time spent "standing by" under orders, that payment should be from the time of engagement until discharged, in handling beef not less than six men to be employed on a side, and that the award should apply to permanent hands as well as casuals. The representative of the employers handed in a statement showing that they were willing to practically adhere to the present award. The ease for the union was not concluded when the Court rose.
